Snabb update

Snabb update

Dagen till ära har jag gått i skolan, haft pathomorphologi och ritat av chronic inflammation med hjälp av mikroskop och slides fulla med tissue. Sen var det parasitologi i 3 timmar, där jag inte var mentalt närvarande. Men jag fick lite av Bee Diseases läxan till imorgon gjord. Vi har prov igen, denna gång på 100 sidor.. läraren har helt förlorat allt vett.

Har även varit ute och sprungit och solat lite (både utomhus och i den lilla solariehallen vid metron). Sen när jag kom hem åt jag 1,5 brownie till middag, som jag sedan spydde upp. Way to sweeeeet!!! Och nu sitter jag här efter att ha slösat cirka 3 timmar på att socialisera mig på internet, och ska lära mig otroligt mkt om bin. Tråkigt!

Springmask och Bi sjukdomar

Idag har jag sett alldeles för mycket human anuses, när jag har summerat delar av parasitologin.

Summa sumarum: Springmask (pinworms) - är vanligast hos barn. Smitta via mun. Människan = enda värden. Husdjur kan vara en anledning till att människor får springmask – maskägg i husdjurs pälsar +  nära kontakt –> barn andas  in äggen.

Idag har vi äntligen haft våran efterlängtade lektion i Bee Diseases. Och med en jättetrevlig lärarinna, en kort power point presentation om bina’s taxonomy och en film på 41 minuter så blev det faktiskt ganska intressant :) . Jag tror detta kommer vara ett ämne som man glider igenom med nöje och minimal ansträngning (even though we gonna have a short test every second week prior to the labs). Thumbs up!

Och den trevliga dagen till ära så fick vi även veta inte skulle ha någon pharmacologi lektion, vilket ledde till att vi fick pinna hem redan runt halvett snåret istället för runt fyra :) .

När jag ändå håller på och berättar om trevliga saker så vill jag bara hälsa att imorgon… ja då har vi inte en enda lektion :D (till skillnad från nästa vecka då vi ska vara hela torsdagen, insvepta i overaller, ……… i en 35 gradig SVINSTIA)

Parasitologi snusk (varnar känsliga läsare)

Detta matas vi med under varje parasitologi lektion. Bilder, bilder och återigen snuskiga bilder på parasiter som man kan ha både lite här och var  (jag tror minsann att läraren njuter av att se våra ansikten förvridas i förtvivlan av tanken att vi möjligen kan träffa på dessa små varelser ELLER ännu värre… själva bli smittade!!!).

Ascaris lumbricoidesHär bjuder jag på Ascaris lumbricoides (a nematode; se bild) och lite av min summering av just nematodes.

Bilden visar hur parasiten beter sig under natten, man kan förenklat säga att den förflyttar sig i magtarmkanalen och kan då komma ut ur både rumpa och mun.

Nematodes in general

- Attack host (you) by entering through body openings or by boring through body wall –> inside – release a bacteria that kills host w.in 48 h

- Make their way through the soil looking for food

- Elimination = difficult –> high capacity for persistence in soils

- Largest = Placentonema gigantissima – 9 m – placenta/ whale

- Great physiological elasticity –> live just about everywhere

Parasitologi på veterinärutbildningen i Warszawa!

Under dagens lektion i parasitologi så pratade vi om skaldjur och insekter. Flatlöss kom, på någon konstigt vis, på tal och jag fick en lapp skickad till mig av en klasskamrat, där det stod följande:

”at one place that I used to work at, this lady comes in with bugs in a jar, found on the bed were her dog sleeps. Shes giving out about the dog + she spent loads of money on flea/tick/mite treatments etc

Dog slept on sons bed – house infected etc

So my friend (vet) examined… and she couldn’t figure out what it was. 

She did findout eventually………..

 

Human Crabs!     Dog + Vet = innocent!

Result: Mortified mother of teenage son. ”

Eye worm

Dreamt that I found a parastic worm in my boyfriends eye last night, so I just had to google it.

Loa loa (picture to the right) is a blood dwelling nematode that is parasitic in humans. The adult worm wanders through the subcutaneous tissue but is most obvious as it crosses the conjunctiva of the eye hence leading to its common name, the African eye worm. Like all roundworms, Loa loa is sexual so a male and female worm must be present in the same host for a full infection to ensue. Upon reproduction the female worm produces sheathed eggs called microfilariae which circulate in the blood stream.

 Loa loa is endemic to parts of Western Africa, especially in the rainforests of the Congo and Sudan. Symptoms are less serious in natives of these areas with complications occurring mostly in visitors and tourists.

  Infection  is spread by biting mango flies.  The American deer fly have been reported to be a competent intermediate host of Loa loa and able to spread the worm to monkeys. This is of some public health concern but so far Loa loa has remained isolated to Africa.

Igår var det Ice Club med tjejerna för att fira min födelsedag ännu en gång :) Hade jätte trevligt!!!

Själva Ice rummet med -8 grader var dock mera som ett skämt haha Det var ungefär lika stort som 12 frysar brevid varandra och bestod av en bar och ca 8 is-skulpturer varav 2 traditionella… du får en shot via det manliga könsorganet eller varför inte dricka vodka från en is-kvinnas bröstvårtor haha

Obs! De serverar ingen mat på fredagar, så vi fick beställa pizza som de i sin tur beställde från en pizzeria i närheten… God var den iaf :)

 

Idag sitter jag, inte alls bakis, och pluggar parasitologi. Har muntligt prov på tisdag.

Assassin Fly – farlig, farlig!!! Bär på parasiten Trypansoma Cruzi. Orsakar Chagas disease.

T. cruzi is commonly transmitted to humans and other mammals by blood-sucking assassin bugs. The disease may also be spread through blood transfusion and organ transplantation, ingestion of food contaminated with parasites, and from a mother to her fetus.

The symptoms of Chagas disease vary over the course of an infection. In the early, acute stage, symptoms are mild and usually produce no more than local swelling at the site of infection. As the disease progresses, over the course of many years, serious chronic symptoms can appear, such as heart disease and malformation of the intestines. If untreated, the chronic disease is often fatal. Current drug treatments are generally unsatisfactory; available medications are highly toxic and often ineffective, particularly those used to treat the chronic stage of the disease.

T. cruzi invades, and divide, in cells of heart and liver- then it is transformed and goes into the blood.
